When the Diamonds Fall

There’s a 50% chance of rain today.

My beautiful green mountain world is 9 inches short of rainfall for the year. We need the rain so badly.

I’ve been playing my “Rain Songs” Napster playlist for two days, very hopeful. We’ve had a chance of rain many, many times this spring. We got wind and drizzle. But no real rain almost all season, and now it’s almost summer.

Here’s a beautiful Neil Young song (gorgeous vocal) from my playlist that ends in clapping that sounds just like rain (with cheers mixed in).

See the Sky About to Rain

See the sky about to rain,
broken clouds and rain.
Locomotive, pull the train,
whistle blowing through my brain.
Signals curling on an open plain,
rolling down the track again.
See the sky about to rain.

Some are bound for happiness,
some are bound to glory
Some are bound to live with less,
who can tell your story?

See the sky about to rain,
broken clouds and rain.
Locomotive, pull the train,
whistle blowin’ through my brain.
Signals curlin’ on an open plain,
rollin’ down the track again.
See the sky about to rain.

I was down in Dixie Land,
played a silver fiddle
Played it loud and then the man
broke it down the middle.
See the sky about to rain.

Here’s Nanci Griffith.

I Wish It Would Rain

Oh, I wish it would rain
And wash my face clean
I want to find some dark cloud
to hide in here
Love in a memory
Sparkled like diamonds
When the diamonds fall
they burn like tears
When the diamonds fall
they burn like tears

Once I had a love from the Georgia pines
Who only cared for me
I wanna find that love of twenty-two
Here at thirty-three
I’ve got a heart on my right, one on my left
neither suits my needs
No, the one I love lives a-way out West
And he never will need me

I’m gonna pack up my two steppin’ shoes
And head for the Gulf Coast plains
I wanna walk the streets of my own hometown
Where everybody knows my name
I wanna ride the waves down in Galveston
When the hurricanes blow in
‘Cuz that Gulf Coast water tastes sweet as wine
When your heart’s rollin’ home in the wind

Oh, I wish it would rain
And wash my face clean
I want to find some dark cloud
to hide in here
Love in a memory
Sparkled like diamonds
When the diamonds fall
they burn like tears
When the diamonds fall
they burn like tears
When the diamonds fall, darlin’
they burn like tears

  1. That’s a great Nanci Griffith song.

  2. There is, on occasion, an alarming synchronicity between your blog and my life. Since you posted this it has not stopped raining. Not. Stopped.

The grass in the paddock is flattened, my 2 1000l water butts are overflowing and by tomorrow morning the river will (again) be all over the garden.

Do you think, please, pretty, pretty please, you could do the lyrics for “The sun has got his hat on”?

    Love and raindrops

  3. LOL I will do just as you ask once we get up to 3 inches of rain for June.
